CCMA to Develop Academic Partnerships with Middlebury College to Increase Career and Internship Opportunities
A GIS Specialist from the Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment (CCMA) gave a presentation at Middlebury College on how CCMA implements GIS and remote sensing technologies to help inform ecosystem-based management decisions. The presentation introduced students to potential career and internship opportunities in the fields of GIS and remote sensing, as well as marine biology, ecology and conservation. In addition, staff and faculty showed a great deal of interest in CCMA products, tools and publications. The presentation was made at the college’s Howard E. CCMA Scientists Research Profiled by San Juan Newspaper
Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment scientists and their work characterizing the Mona Passage in Puerto Rico were profiled in the San Juan Star, Monday, April 30, 2007. The article, “Scientists find coral thriving at unusual depths in Mona Passage, Puerto Rico” contained several photos and quotes from the scientists. The research was conducted April 14-24, 2007 to develop the first comprehensive benthic habitat maps of Conservation Areas, high priority marine protected areas on Puerto Rico’s western coast.
