The use of pharmaceuticals can result in the discharge of these compounds to surface waters. Although a number of pharmaceuticals were detected, the effect, if any, of these low (part per billion) concentrations on aquatic organisms is currently unknown.)
CCMA completes year 3 of Caribbean benthic mapping effort.
NOAA's CCMA Biogeography Branch recently completed the third year of an ongoing Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) benthic habitat mapping project in the US Caribbean. While working aboard R/V NANCY FOSTER from 3/20/06 to 4/2/06, multibeam sonar bathymetry and backscatter were collected alongside Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) underwater video at depths down to 1000 meters. CCMA releases unprecedented report on whales, fish, birds, and invertebrates found in the Chanel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and Southern California Shores
The Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment recently completed the most comprehensive effort ever undertaken to understand large-scale marine biogeography with the release of A Biogeographic Assessment of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, a report on the distribution of marine flora, fauna, and physical oceanography in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary (CINMS or sanctuary) and offshore southern California. The 215-page report, available online to researchers and the public, is a result of a three-year collaboration to compile and assess information. Read More

CCMA releases report detailing the current status of shallow water coral reef ecosystems in the U.S. and associated Pacific territories.
- The State of Coral Reef Ecosystems of the United States and Pacific Freely Associated States: 2005 represents an initial effort to determine the present condition of shallow water coral reef ecosystems based on quantitative results of assessment and monitoring activities conducted by Federal, State, Territory, Commonwealth, non-governmental, private, and academic partners. The report, which is the second in a series, was produced in close collaboration with teams of experts that authored chapters on the condition of coral reef ecosystems in each of 14 jurisdictions.
