Buck Island Reef National Monument:
Partners for Protection and Resource Management
A collaborative documentary between the National Park Service and NOAA
The National Park Service’s Buck Island Reef National Monument in St. Croix, USVI and the NOAA Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment – Biogeography Branch have produced a video documenting the scientific work underway between the two agencies and its partners to produce data and information to support the management of marine resources found within and around the Monument. The 20-minute DVD product illustrates the agency partnership and showcases cutting-edge technologies to map and monitor the marine environment in an effort to evaluate the effectiveness of the marine protected areas (MPAs). Buck Island Reef National Monument is one of the few fully protected marine protected areas in the National Park System, and is “one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean Sea.”
